Peat extraction releases a lot of CO2. That is why we at Stolk Brothers have worked hard to grow all our anthuriums peat free. Since the beginning of 2023, we have supplied our entire range without peat.
At Stolk Brothers, we grow potted Anthurium plants with care for people, the environment and the product. Sustainability and being a good employer are not separate topics for us, but a fixed part of how we work every day. That is why we are MPS-SQ certified, in addition to our MPS-GAP and MPS-ABC certifications.
What is MPS-SQ?
MPS-SQ (Socially Qualified) is an internationally recognized certification for good and fair working conditions in the ornamental horticulture sector. The standard sets requirements for, among other things, safe and healthy workplaces, fair employment conditions, equal treatment, and the prevention of child labor and forced labor. An independent body checks annually whether we continue to meet these requirements.
What we stand for
- Safe and healthy working — we prevent accidents, injuries and harm to health as much as possible and provide the right instructions, information and protective equipment.
- Fair employment conditions — every employee has a written employment contract in a language he or she understands, a fair wage in accordance with the Greenhouse Horticulture collective labor agreement, and proper social security.
- Equal treatment — we do not discriminate based on origin, gender, age, religion or type of contract. Discrimination, harassment, child labor and forced labor are not tolerated.
- An open and safe working environment — employees can report concerns or complaints confidentially and without negative consequences, for example to their supervisor or the confidential adviser.
- Care for the environment — we work with a closed water cycle, integrated crop protection (biological solutions before chemical ones wherever possible) and separated waste processing.
